A Manager's Guide:

How To Plan An Effective Meeting

Project Synopsis

Audience: Newly- hired and experienced managers.Employees who are responsible for meeting facilitation.

Responsibilities: End to End Instructional Design and Development, Visual Design, Storyboarding

Tools Used: Articulate Storyline 360, Adobe XD, Mind Meister, CanvaPro, Google Suite

The Scenario

The Level Corporation, recognized that their managers were not planning for meetings effectively. As a result, decreased productivity, employee disengagement, and low moral has had exorbitant consequences.

Initially, the performance data was analyzed and I verified that The Level Corporation's managers lacked the knowledge and skill required to navigate planning effectively for meetings. I proposed a scenario based micro- eLearning  experience where the managers could practice identifying the correct stages to effective meeting planning.

Our goal was to improve employee satisfaction and narrow the financial impact of the problem by providing managers with a risk-free environment to make choices and observe consequences. This allows  the learner to merge their choices with the realistic consequences.

The Process

Action Mapping :I consulted experienced managers and entry level employees as my subject matter experts (SME's) to create the action map and identify the comprehensive goals for this project. Progress was measured by monitoring the employee satisfaction survey data, and data collected through manager observations and interviews. Finally we listed the actions required to help managers plan an effective meeting and reduce employee complaints.

Text-Based Storyboard: After the action map was completed and approved, I launched development of a text-based storyboard that integrates these key actions into a coherent narrative. The scenario I framed represented a newly hired manager who has to plan a meeting, and I consulted with the SME's to confirm each component reflected reality.

Although there are a variety of  potential circumstances that require managers to plan a meeting, I chose a newly-hired manager who is overtaking a project as a result of its frequent occurrence.  Scenario prompts appear featuring  consequences as the learner goes through the scenario. Selecting an incorrect choice leads the learner through an extended sequence providing feedback, and leading back to the original quiz slide. This process features a variety of realistic outcomes.

Full Development

The full development of the scenario in Articulate Storyline 360 was a smooth and effective process with all the elements created and having the programming framework for each consequence established.
